Any time a food place closes that had built a following, the people that loved it have a hard time letting it go.

That's especially true in Maine. When people find something specific they really adore, they really latch onto it.

That was the case with a small donut shop in Portland, Maine, called Hi-Fi Donuts.

Hi-Fi Donuts first opened in Portland in 2017 along a busy walking corridor. It was a slow start for the shop but before long, it regularly had lines that extended far beyond the shops walls.

Hi-Fi Donuts in Portland, Maine, Closed Under Murky Circumstances in 2025

Despite being one of the most popular donut shops in Portland, Maine, Hi-Fi Donuts announced they would be "temporarily" closing their business in April of 2025.

That closure was centered around a dispute between the business and the property's owner based on the lease.

Hi-Fi Donuts deemed their closure to be "temporary", hoping to find a new location somewhere in southern Maine where they could both expand and simply focus on the business.

Hi-Fi Donuts Has Not Come Back to Life Anywhere in Maine Yet

For about a month following their closure, Hi-Fi Donuts offered updates on their social media as they searched for new locations.

Unfortunately, their social media went quiet last June.

Ironically, the space at 30 City Center that Hi-Fi Donuts called home for nearly 8 years has remained vacant since the business departed.

For fans of Hi-Fi, it's starting to seem unlikely that the donut shop ever returns in full. But it was so good while it lasted.
