High-Speed Police Chase Ends in Front of Big Al’s Super Values in Wiscasset, Maine

A Standish man led Maine State Police on a high-speed chase through mid-coast Maine reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour on Monday.

According to Shannon Moss, the Public Information Officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety, a Range Rover passed a Trooper on Route 1 in Brunswick Monday afternoon at criminal speed. The exact speed was not given but was at least 60 miles per hour. Criminal speed is 30 miles per hour over the posted speed limit which on that area of Route 1 is 30 miles per hour.

The driver was 21-year-old Pasquale Lapomarda of Standish and this kid has got a big pair of....well...you know....because he sped right past the Trooper's marked and clearly visible cruiser. The next thing he saw was blue lights in his rearview, but he was not even thinking about stopping as he took off northbound on Route 1 through West Bath and Bath reaching a top speed of 102 miles per hour. The Trooper stopped the pursuit when Pasquale hit heavy traffic in Bath, not wanting to cause a greater risk to the public.

If you've ever been in Bath at rush hour, you know this dude was going to have a hard time getting through traffic and he had to slow down considerably while the Trooper kept an eye on him. That's when dispatch let the Trooper know that this same Range Rover had been spotted in Freeport driving erratically on I-295 before arriving in Brunswick. Now the chase was on again.

Lapomarda pulled over for the Trooper but quickly sped off again northbound heading toward Wiscasset. Wiscasset Police were ready for him though as they laid out a spike strip which hit and quickly had both his rear tires flattened. He was arrested where the car came to a stop, right in front of Big Al's in Wiscasset. "The place to be!"

Lapomarda was charged with Eluding an officer, Criminal speed, Passing a roadblock, and Reckless conduct. That should keep him off the road for a while.
