Brutal Heatwave Arrives in Maine Before Holiday Weekend

For almost the entirety of this year's late-spring and early-summer, Maine has been stuck in the same consistent weather pattern.

That pattern has provided comfortable temperatures but not enough sun. That pattern has already dropped a ton of rain on the state over the last several weeks.

Maine will escape that pattern this week and the results won't be what many are looking for. Instead, Vacationland is poised to be more in a multi-day heatwave with potentially dangerous consequences.

Powerful Heatwave Set to Arrive in Maine on Wednesday

Currently sitting over the midwest, a powerful heat pattern is set to make its way to New England starting on Wednesday.

This heatwave will bring 90+ degree temperatures to most of Maine mid-week and should encompass almost the entire state by late-week.

Thursday and Friday's forecasted temperatures will be the most dangerous.

Thursday could be record-breaking heat for many towns and cities across Maine, with a strong likelihood of reaching triple digits.

Friday is also predicted to be in the mid-to-upper 90's.

For July 4, the brutal heat should begin to subside but the forecast still calls for upper-80's and low-90's in many communities.

It Will Feel Even Hotter Than The Actual Temperature in Maine

This incoming heatwave is particularly dangerous thanks to the predicted heat index it will bring with it.

The heat index measures how hot temperatures actually feel to the human body. For instance, while a thermometer might read 82 outside, the heat index might read 92 because that is how it feels on the ground.

The heat index predictions for this heatwave are extremely dangerous.

On Thursday and Friday, the heat index will reach dangerous levels for most of southern, central and portions of eastern Maine with "real feel" temperatures exceeding well above 100 degrees.

Dew points will also be high resulting in thick, unforgiving humidity.
