How Are Tourists Finding This Place? Red’s Eats Wiscasset Line Insane Midweek
We all know Vacationland is the place to be in the summer. Tourists flock from near and far, driving from our neighboring states in New Hampshire and flying across the country from California.
Locals and tourists alike adore our state for varying reasons, from our sandy beaches and rocky shores, beautiful summer climate, scenic nature views, craft beer, and of course, our culinary scene.
Maine has its fancy shmancy restaurants but we all know the best places to go are the ones off the beaten path; the speakeasies of local food.
There’s one place in Wiscasset that is simple yet other-worldly. I drove by in the afternoon midweek the other day and there was a line wrapped around town!
Reds Eats in Wiscasset
You know Reds Eats is good because it’s been open for 84 YEARS. Yes, 84. Their website boasts the claim that they are the “World’s Best Lobster Shack” and while that could be seen as a subjective opinion, their reviews add up. So, if they’re the WORLD’S best, then you know they are Maine’s #1 lobster roll as they proudly exclaim.
Red Eats on Netflix’s Somebody Feed Phil
One of those reviews was from a Netflix special, Somebody Feed Phil. The iconic show features a foodie who travels the world trying the best food in various places and he went to Reds Eats in Wiscasset. There’s even a quote from him talking about the lobster shack:
“There’s a lobster roll in Maine that’s pretty awesome, at Reds Eats, it’s undeniable. I mean, if there’s a heaven, that’s one of the places that’s like God’s favorite hangout.”
… Listen, you guys. I am a born and raised Mainer and I have never been to this place because the line is always WHACK but a quote like that can’t be ignored. Plus, if there’s a line wrapped around town even on a random Tuesday afternoon, then it really must be the world’s greatest lobster shack.
