Maine Woman Who Drowned in Biscay Pond Identified

According to an article on the WMTW website, the body of a Damariscotta woman who was reported missing Thursday morning has been recovered from Biscay Pond, according to the Maine Warden Service.

Officials say 50-year-old Bethany Hancock was reported missing by her husband at approximately 6 AM Thursday. He told authorities he had last seen his wife around 10 PM Wednesday.

Game wardens and officers with the Damariscotta Police Department responded to the couple's home on Biscay Pond and launched a search. During the operation, crews discovered a swim float mat, normally secured to the family's dock, floating about 200 yards offshore.

Search teams initially used boats and a drone but were unable to locate Hancock.

Later Thursday afternoon, the Maine Warden Service Dive Team was called in to assist. Divers located a body in the pond and recovered Hancock from the water at approximately 4:45 PM.

The Maine Warden Service said Hancock's death is not considered suspicious.  No additional information has been released.
