Skowhegan, Maine, Upgrading Outdated Information Technology System
One Central Maine town has made a huge step toward joining the 2020s.
According to an article on the KJ website, Skowhegan has made a deal to upgrade the municipality's aging information technology system.
During a meeting on Tuesday, the town's select board made the decision to award the contract for the IT upgrade and maintenance to Norridgewock's IT4ME. The necessary upgrade will cost $140,788. They also agreed to a year of maintenance service at a rate of $7,792 per month. If all goes well, it is possible that the service agreement will be renewed past the initial 12-month period.
There are several reasons for the upgrade. The article explains that there were concerns about the protection of important data and a major breakdown reportedly interfered with town business.

Additionally, as the article explains, there were issues with the room where the main servers are housed and some of the work computers are so old that they will not accept needed anti-virus software upgrades.
There is no word on when the work will be completed.
