A tragic discovery was made earlier this week off the coast of Southern Maine, and now officials are working to learn more about what happened.

According to WGME 13,, a local fishing boat came across a body floating in the ocean near the Isle of Shoals, a group of small islands that straddle the Maine-New Hampshire state line. It's a peaceful, remote area known for fishing and boating, but this week's events have brought a somber mood to the region.

The Maine Marine Patrol responded quickly after the call came in and was able to recover the body from the water. WGME is reporting at this time, the person’s identity has not been released, and details remain limited as the investigation is still in the early stages.

Law enforcement is working to determine who the individual is and what circumstances led to their death. While the scene is understandably unsettling, authorities have emphasized that there is no known threat to the public, the news station reported.

As always, we’ll keep you updated as soon as more information becomes available. In the meantime, our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this situation.
