
New Hampshire Ranks Among Top 5 Best States to Live, Maine No. 15
New England is well represented in a new ranking of the best states to live in, with both New Hampshire and Maine earning strong spots on the list. According to WalletHub, New Hampshire ranked fifth overall, putting the Granite State among the top five places to live in the country, while Maine came in at number 15.
New Hampshire Makes the Top Five
WalletHub compared all 50 states using 51 indicators of livability across five main categories: affordability, economy, education and health, quality of life, and safety.

According to WalletHub, New Hampshire received a total score of 58.89 and performed especially well in several categories. The state ranked second in the nation for its economy, third for education and health, and fourth for safety. Those strong results helped New Hampshire secure the number five position overall.
Maine Comes In at No. 15
Maine also earned a solid position in the national ranking. The state received a total score of 54.78, placing it 15th overall. Maine ranked 11th for education and health and 14th for safety. The state also stood out for its high homeownership rate, ranking second in the country.

New England Stands Out
Idaho claimed the number one overall spot, followed by New Jersey, Wisconsin and Massachusetts. With New Hampshire rounding out the top five and Maine landing at number 15, the rankings put two northern New England states among some of the country’s strongest places to live.
