Saying Goodbye to a Scarborough, Maine Classic: Bayley’s Seafood
Okay, this one is hard to read, for more than 30 years, Bayley’s Seafood Restaurant was a familiar part of life in Scarborough.
Family owned and operated since 1995, Bayley’s built its reputation around something simple: quality local seafood, served without the fuss.
Now, after more than 30 years, Bayley's has served its final meal. The restaurant officially closed on Aug. 20, leaving behind more than an empty dining room.
For so many of us it was difficult to read their goodbye on Facebook.
Bayley's said in part,
"This has been an incredibly meaningful chapter, and we are so grateful to everyone who supported us, shared a meal with us, celebrated with us, and made memories inside these walls. We are especially thankful for the friends and customers who continued to come through our doors and support us along the way."
That really struck me because itt leaves behind decades of memories for locals and visitors who made it part of their routine.
A summer trip to Pine Point, a family dinner, a quick seafood fix or a meal that became an annual tradition could easily include a stop at Bayley’s.
Over the years, the restaurant became familiar in the absolute best possible way, you knew what you were getting, and that was exactly the point.
One dish that will be especially hard to forget is the Maine lobster roll.
Boy, did they do that right.
It's hard to imagine a more fitting final meal from a restaurant known for serving up some of Maine's best seafood. A classic basket with fries was the perfect sendoff for a place that became a Scarborough staple.
After more than 30 years, Bayley's wasn't just somewhere to grab dinner, it was part of countless family traditions, summer memories, and local stories. It's never easy to say goodbye to a place like that.
Thanks for the memories, Bayley's. You'll be missed.
