Just how fast have breweries grown in Maine?

According to the Maine Brewers Guild, it's been an insane rise. The number of licensed breweries increased by 200% from 2015 to 2020! In 2020, there were 154 'licensed' breweries in Maine up from just 73 in 2017. Maine's economy is reaping the rewards. Breweries contributed $167 million directly to Maine's economy in 2020, and $260 million overall. The craft beer industry in Maine has grown almost twice as fast as the rest of the country!

Maine brewers have some fun with the names of their beer

Mainebiz broke down the top brewers in Maine. One of the smaller brewers Cushnoc Brewing Company in Augusta (coming in at #17 for the top 18 brewers in Maine) has a beer called Gigantic Dad Pants IPA. It seems the smaller the brewer, the more fun they have with the names of their beers. Allagash (#1 brewer) has beers like Allagash White, meanwhile, Mast Landing Brewing out of Westbrook (#10 brewer) has a beer called A Beer Named Duck.
