
Portland, Maine Not Slowing Down on New Hotels With Another One at Thompson’s Point
Construction started on another hotel in Portland, Maine. This one is at Thompson's Point.
The five-story, 148-room Marriott hotel just started construction. Mainebiz points out this was part of the long-term plan for Thompson's Point and has been in the works for over 10 years.
When will Portland, Maine's newest hotel open?
They just broke ground, and are expecting to be open in 2026. This new Marriott will be next to the Children's Museum & Theater of Manie and actually connected to the 34,000-square-foot Brick South event space. Hope they like music, because it's right next to the stage where concerts are nearly nightly in the summer. The hotel will have a restaurant, bar, and roof terrace. If you can't get tickets to a concert, book a room!

Can Portland, Maine, handle all these additional hotel rooms?
The short answer is yes! According to the Portland Press Herald, occupancy rates in the summer and even in the offseason, are higher than the national average. Portland has added about 450 rooms since 2020. With the Canopy Hotel, Aloft, Cambria Hotel, and the Longfellow Hotel. According to the Press Herald,
There are plenty more in the pipeline.
Last summer, Portland had at least 750 hotel rooms in the planning process. That's Portland, the surrounding area there are 400 more in the works. Last year Portland's total hotel rooms was around 3,400 and in Greater Portland that number is over 8,300!
As long as Maine keeps being the place to be, we'll keep building hotels to house the tourists. We'll always have a love-hate relationship with tourists, but they are always going to come because Maine is just that awesome.
