One of Maine's first indoor dog bars is now open.

The Barkery Dog Bar in South Portland held its grand opening on Thursday, February 5, with a ribbon-cutting, and pups and their humans got to experience food, drinks, and canine playtime inside.

With all this freezing weather, it seems like a great option for your dog to run and have fun out of the cold, all while you find something delicious to eat.

When Does The Barkery Dog Bar in South Portland, Maine, Open?

News about The Barkery Dog Bar in South Portland was announced back in 2024, and now, with everything having come together, the place has finally opened.

The Barkery Dog Bar shared on its Facebook page the grand opening announcement of Thursday, February 5, 2026.

The place is now open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., while it is closed on Tuesday.

What Can You Do at The Barkery Dog Bar in South Portland, Maine?

The Barkery Dog Bar's website provides a helpful idea of what to expect when you visit with your pup, highlighting on-leash dining areas, an off-leash park where you can drink while your dogs run and play, and a human-only dining area, if you're so inclined.

The site also notes "gourmet food, craft beers, creative cocktails, and dog-friendly treats."

And yes, there's an off-leash dog park.

Nate Viens, co-owner of The Barkery Dog Bar, told the Portland Press Herald that there will be attentive staff there to help you and your pup out at the park.

“We’ll have people staffed inside the park with a whole toolkit just to assist owners,” he told the newspaper. “They’ll help avoid issues of fights or behavior from dogs we don’t want to see.”

The Barkery Dog Bar's website notes a few requirements for bringing your dog, including up-to-date vaccinations (Rabies, Distemper, Parvo, Bordetella), being friendly and well-socialized with other dogs, and being sprayed/neutered after 6 months old.

A recent Facebook post also highlighted some of the steps you can take before bringing your dog.
