I have so many questions and no answers as to exactly how this car managed to wedge the top of a utility pole beneath it, lifting three of its wheels off the ground.

This photo was posted to Central Maine Power's Facebook page Thursday morning. It shows a severed utility pole with the top half wedged under this car while the bottom half remained solidly in the ground. Utility wires came down as well, snagged in the mess.

The Facebook post did not provide any information about the accident, except for a warning to drivers that snow and ice can cause dangerous road conditions.

I assume that the driver of this car is okay, as I don't think CMP would have posted this otherwise.

I don't have any skills in accident reconstruction and investigation, but I'm going to give this a shot anyway.

To me, it looks like the driver lost control on the sharp s-curve you can see behind the emergency vehicles. The car then struck the utility pole causing the top half to separate and be pulled to the ground by the attached wires, wedging the top of the pole under the front end of the car, lifting it off the ground with only the left rear tire touching the pavement.

Again, I'm not an expert, but it sounds logical to me.

Now that we've had our first winter storm in parts of Maine, this is a good reminder to take it slow when roads are covered in snow and ice.
