Longtime Chinese Restaurant in Portland, Maine, Permanently Closes
For those that have driven along outer Forest Avenue in Portland, Maine, over the past couple of decades, there's been a handful of consistent businesses that populate the route.
From standards like Hannaford and Moran's Market to the classic Portland Fire Department Riverton station.
Tucked into a parade of houses along Forest Avenue has been one of Portland's longest-running Chinese restaurants.
That would be Fortune Garden. But you'll need to start thinking about it in the past tense.
Fortune Garden in Portland, Maine, Has Officially Closed For Good
Much to the surprise of infrequent customers, Fortune Garden has permanently closed operations.
According to a social media post, when a craving for some old school Cantonese food struck recently, they attempted to call the restaurant to find that the number had been disconnected.
The restaurant's website has also been pulled down and a Google business listing says that Fortune Garden is officially closed for good.
Fortune Garden is The Latest Chinese Restaurant to Close in Portland, Maine
Several long standing Chinese restaurants in Portland, Maine, have closed over the last decade.
In 2018, another longtime Forest Avenue Chinese staple, Valley Chinese, closed their doors for good. The restaurant had been one of the most popular takeout spots in the city when it permanently closed.
Perhaps most memorably, Lang's Express on St. John Street closed in 2019. The Chinese staple once hosted former President Bill Clinton for lunch in the mid 1990's.
Lang's Express was torn down to build a newer, more modern Dunkin' location that is currently in operation.
