If there's one thing Mainers know, it's snow.

Fluffy, heavy, icy, packed, and powdery, the Pine Tree State gets it all, and often that fresh blanket of white makes for an incredible scene ideal for Instagram.

USA Today has been running a poll for which place in the country is the perfect destination for snow, and one Maine spot is in the running.

That would be the northern city of Caribou.

Going up against contenders like three Alaska spots, a few places in Colorado and even North Conway, New Hampshire, the Aroostook County place has its hands full when it comes to trying to take the No. 1 spot on the publication's list.

Will it win? Maybe. Should it win? Of course, even if Mainers might have a bias for one of their own locations.

According to the Weather Channel, Caribou is one of the snowiest places in the country and based on 1981-2010 data, averages "108.7 inches of snow each winter."

Newer data suggest 118 inches on average, though, according to Maine Public, 2023 saw a big decrease in snowfall totals.

Still, look at this picture of the National Weather Service in Caribou's doors blocked by all the snow.

USA Today notes that "snowshoeing, skiing, ice-skating, and a wealth of other winter sports" really bring the area to life during the winter months and help make it a viable candidate for the best snow destination in the U.S.

When the snow comes down in Caribou, which is well-documented thanks to the National Weather Service in the area, it really is perfect for skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and even a good old-fashioned snowball fight.

And who knows? You might just spot the Northern Lights while out on a nice snowy walk.

Really, it's outdoor snow adventures galore.

What do you think? Should Caribou be named the No. 1 snowy destination in the U.S.?

You can vote at USA Today until December 9. Fingers crossed Caribou lands the top spot!
