Here’s a Cute, Easy-to-Find, Hidden Gem Waterfall Hike in Portland, Maine
Now that it's officially springtime in Maine (well, kinda), the cherry blossom tree's are about to ignite hiking season. While some Mainers enjoy the satisfaction of completing a more challenging hike like one of the trails in Acadia, I also can enjoy a more relaxed, easier one on a work night. It allows me to enjoy nature without getting back home too late and exhausted for work the next day.
Okay, back to the hike. Have you ever checked out Presumpscot River Preserve? This one is cool, and is actually a nature preserve. Here's my doodle Maverick running around:
You can walk into the woods for 10 minutes, and see enough cool things to hang for a few and then leave. Even something simple like the man-made staircases along the trails are easily accessible within the first few minutes of the trail. Or, you can hike this trail for an hour and walk all the way around the river, but either way, it's still such a cool little hike. If you do decide to go about 15 minutes in, you'll hear the waterfall from a distance before you reach it about one mile in.
According to trails.com, The Presumpscot River flows from Sebago Lake right to its outlet at Casco Bay. So technically, you could make this 2.5-mile hike into a 10-mile hike if you really wanted to. See? Options!
