Ha, welcome to my ted talk about foods most people adore and then there's me.

Mainer's are creatures of habit, they like what they like and it's typically the things that represent the state very well.

Here's 5 food items that in the last 9 years of living here, I've noticed are the most popular food choices that I also noticed I'd never touch. Don't fight me for these, but here we go.

Oysters

I don't even think any of us REALLY know what an oyster even is besides a mollusk. They're promoted and served all over the state but you won't change my mind, they're absolutely disgusting. It's like eating a booger or expired milk (sorry).

What kind of animal is an oyster?

According to massoyster, "Oysters are bivalves, which is the name for a number of marine and freshwater mollusks that have long, flat bodies made up of a shell consisting of two hinged parts."

Red snapper hot dogs

Unpopular opinion but I can't get behind these bright colored glizzy's. It's almost like knowingly eating harmful food coloring in your already mystery meat hot dog.

DISCLAIMER: High Roller in Portland is effing amazing. I just had to use their page as a visual because they're social media is awesome.

Nothing against the restaurants that carry them thought. If you own a restaurant in Maine it's almost like an unwritten rule that you have to have the "red hot dog" as an alternative hotdog option. I don't make the rules.

Whoopie Pies

This is the one I fully expect to catch some mouthy feedback on. I'm sorry but they're so rich and full of empty calories that biting into it feels like I already have a stomach ache.

However, this state adores them so who am I to judge you, I just can't get past a singular bite of those puffy pastries.

Blueberry Pie

I'm just like those weird ketchup people. They like ketchup but not tomatoes or love tomatoes just not ketchup. Maine blueberries on their own are actually one of my favorite foods, just not in a pie.

In fact I hate pie all around HAHA. Now I sound like the grinch but it's just not for me even though the entire state loves it. The blueberry barrens up north though are absolutely incredible and everybody needs to go at least once.

Moxie

I know I'm breaking the rules here because this is about food, but Moxie is probably one of the biggest drink traditions in this state. Locals obsess over this soda and yet I think I almost puked when I tried it for the first time. I'm sorry. No I'm not.

There you go guys. Don't worry, I fully expect the hate to come with this post <3.
