The USA Today's 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards just made the White Mountains in New Hampshire the 'it' spot for foliage.

Anyone who lives in New England knows that we live in the most picturesque part of the country when the leaves start to turn. When I first moved to Maine and experienced my first fall, I simply could not believe the colors! I truly was living in a postcard. Now the rest of the country knows that the White Mountains are the place to be.

How popular are the White Mountains in New Hampshire for foliage?

New Hampshire's White Mountains won sixth place for best fall foliage. Seacoast Online reported that predictions from Accuweather say that foliage in New Hampshire is expected to peak in early to mid-October. So look out Mount Washington Valley, you're gonna have some visitors! One way to experience this beautiful fall would be a hike through Franconia Notch State Park to the Flume Gorge.

If you are up for a drive or a hefty hike, get to the top of Mount Washington. The elevation changes as you climb almost 6,300 feet is remarkable and the colors are unmatchable. Of course, when you get to the top, it's a coin flip as to the view. The weather on top of Mount Washington changes quickly and often. One minute you can see forever, and the next you are in a wall of clouds.

Several ways to see the foliage through the White Mountains in New Hampshire

If your hiking days are behind you, no worries. If you are a fan of driving, the White Mountains region has a ton of scenic roads. You can also ride a train with the Conway Scenic Railroad or the Granite State Scenic Railway, or try driving on the Kancamagus Highway. Heck, try SAYING the Kancamagus Highway! And of course, you can try to get your car up the Mount Washington Auto Road or let them drive you. I'm a fan of letting them drive you. It lets you look and enjoy the scenery and not that cliff you are driving super close to!
