From ACC to National Honors: The Major Awards Maine’s Cooper Flagg Has Won at Duke
A magical year has come to an end for Maine's Cooper Flagg.
The basketball phenom and his Duke Blue Devil teammates fell in heartbreaking fashion to the Houston Cougars late in their Final Four matchup.
Cooper Flagg and the Duke Blue Devils Magical Season is Officially Over
Sadly, there will be no storybook ending for the Newport native, at least not in what is likely to be his only year playing in the college ranks.
But what a year it was for Flagg, as he and Duke finished the season with an ACC regular season and conference championship, plus a trip to the Final Four.
Cooper Flagg Had One of the Most Dynamic Freshman Years Ever
A lot of that has to do with the "Maine Event," who was quite the leader on the floor for Duke. Flag lead the team in points (19.2 per game), rebounds (7.5), assists (4.2), steals (1.4), and blocks (1.4). That is simply unheard of. It's one thing to lead in a few of the major categories, but in all of them? That's some serious baller status.
However, it truly was a total team effort for Duke. The rest of the Blue Devils played exceptionally well, especially by winning the ACC Tournament when Flagg was sidelined with an injury, and they didn't slow down when the NCAA Tournament kicked off. It was a year Duke fans won't soon forget.
Cooper Flagg and His Family Continue to Raise Awareness and Support for the Ronald McDonald House
It should also be pointed out how much Cooper has been an All-Star off the floor. He and his brother, Maine basketball commit Ace, are the faces of the "In Flagg We Trust" brand. The clothing line is available through Double Play Collectibles in partnership with Victor Rios, two wonderful Maine companies.
For every "In Flagg We Trust" product sold, $5 goes directly to the Ronald McDonald House in Portland, on behalf of the Flagg family. It's just another amazing thing that Flagg is a part of, and another example of Mainers helping Mainers.
