The popular periodical published an article about the best hike in every state. While you could argue that about 100 trails in Maine could be considered the best, the one chosen by Reader's Digest is an outstanding choice. The magazine's selection is the Mount Kineo State Park trail network.

Maine's Best Hiking Spot: Mount Kineo State Park

Located right on Moosehead Lake, this picturesque hike combines four trails that take you to the summit of Mount Kineo, as well as loop around the park. The mountain itself has an elevation of 1,789 feet, making it quite a sight, especially considering it abuts a lake.

The trail is rated easy to moderate, depending on the reference guide you use. However, it's safe to say that the majority of people could easily complete these trails.

To get to Mount Kineo State Park, you need to take a shuttle boat from the town of Rockwood...Choose from four different routes (Indian, Bridle, Carriage or North) to the summit, where a converted fire tower sits.
