Hey, look at that, it's September. You know what that means. Bring on the Leaf Peepers. Thankfully Portland is ready for the hordes of amateur dendrologists, with its great number of restaurants, bars, and its impressive roster of hotels.

It’s still remarkable to think about how many hotels Portland now has, with several more currently under construction. Not that long ago, this was a city where people regularly complained about the lack of accommodations. That certainly isn’t the case anymore.

How Much Does Portland, Maine, Continue to Grow?

I’ll never forget hearing, back in the early 2010s, that many people thought Portland was close to being oversaturated with hotels. Welp, that theory was about as accurate as believing that traveling by horse would always be more popular than the automobile.

The Old Port, East End, and the West End are now dotted with beautiful, trendy inns that have completely reshaped the city’s dynamic and skyline. Even Thompson’s Point is getting in on the action, with a recently-opened hotel that is perfect for summer concertgoers.

So, with the busy tourist season right around the corner, I decided to check out TripAdvisor’s Maine page to see what outsiders think about this massive hotel industry, and which joints are giving visitors the best experience. I looked at the site’s latest “Best of” list, which ranks hotels based on several factors, including popularity and guest reviews.
