What makes a town unusual? Is it it's rich and complex history? Is it the unique delicacy that they serve at the general store? Is it the fact that they only have 30 residents in the whole town? (we have a few of those in New Hampshire!)

Every town has it's claim to fame. My hometown of Leominster, Massachusetts, has two things we like to brag about. One is that the plastic flamingoes that some people like to stick on their lawn were invented in our city!

Also, it was the birthplace of Johnny Appleseed. Yes, that eccentric lad who walked around barefoot with a pot on his head planting apple trees was a real guy! His name was John Chapman and he's a pretty big deal in our neck of the woods. Every year we have a big apple themed parade downtown in his honor. We even have a school named after him! I was a student a Johnny Appleseed Elementary.

A site called Travel Alot released an article highlighting the most unusual town in every state. Before checking which one they chose for New Hampshire, I had a few guesses which all happened to be wrong.

My first guess was Henniker, New Hampshire. If you want to talk unique and unusual you will never find another Henniker on earth. Literally. It is the only town named Henniker that exists in the U.S or even the world. No repeats!

Ossipee was my second guess since Ossipee Mountain is actually an extinct volcano that dates back 125 million years.

My third guess was Derry, New Hampshire, the home of Alan Shepard; the first New Hampshirite to hit a golf ball on the moon!

But as formerly mentioned, my guesses were incorrect and Travel Alot named Gorham, New Hampshire, our most unusual town.

What makes Gorham, New Hampshire so unusual?

It is a true wild kingdom of moose. Though it may not actually be true that these gentle beasts are in charge around these parts, there's no denying their importance there.  All year round, moose watchers travel to this town to get amazing views and the best seat in the house.

Anyone who calls Gorham home will undoubtedly have many tales of moose encounters.

Have you ever spotted a moose in the wild? Did it happen in Gorham, New Hampshire?
