Popular Snacks New England Students Want Packed Today vs. in the ’90s
Growing up as a kid, there were a few snacks that I couldn't live without. I found that most of my friends in school would often come up to me asking to trade my snack.
This was when I realized I WAS the go-to snack kid at school.
I was very surprised by what New England children are bringing to snack TODAY.
One specific chip brand that I remember being passed around the snack table in the 1990s was Cape Cod Potato Chips. I would beg my parents to pack two bags of Cape Cod Potato Chips in elementary school because the crunch was so addicting.
I'm sure many of you have had a Cape Cop Potato Chip, but if you haven't, YOU NEED TO.
Eating a Cape Cod Potato Chip is a core memory of mine. However, one day my life changed when my friend told me to put my chips in between my Fluffernutter sandwich.
For those who don't know, a Fluffernutter sandwich has peanut butter and marshmallow fluff in between two pieces of bread.
According to Aimee Tucker of New England Magazine, Fluffernutter sandwiches were created by Archibald Query in Somerville, Massachusetts. Wow. Mr. Query was a smart man.
Check out this video on how to make a Fluffernutter sandwich, which is a New England delicacy.
Do children still ask for their parents to make them Fluffernutter sandwiches? I think nut allergies are more common today than in the '90s. I need to ask my younger cousin (who has a nut allergy) if his school lets kids bring Fluffernutter sandwiches.
Now, it is that time. Thank you for being patient.
I'm here to answer what you may have been wondering: what snacks are children asking to have packed to take to school?
According to a WBEZ Chicago article via Maine Public, many children like to pack Cheetos Crunchy Flamin' Hot.
I was surprised that children desired Cheetos Crunchy Flamin' Hot. I was not expecting many children to like spice, I sure didn't when I was a kid. That said, I did and still DO love Cheetos Puffs.
I wonder how a Cheetos Crunchy Flamin' Hot would taste in a Fluffernutter sandwich...
After doing some more research, here are some other snacks that New England children are fond of! According to Thrillist, Maine and Rhode Island kids love Ritz Crackers.
Almond Joy seems to be a New Hampshire favorite, while Massachusetts is into the Crunch bar.
And that leaves Connecticut on the Oreo train, and Vermont eating up muffins as their favorite, based on Thrillst's list.
Once again I was shocked by the snack results I found. Were you surprised by the snacks that children packed? What was your favorite snack as a kid? Let me know!
