Every mother’s worst nightmare: your babies out of reach, scared, and somewhere you can’t get to them.

That’s exactly what happened to one mother duck on a busy Massachusetts street, as her ducklings were trapped deep inside a storm drain.

Can you imagine the panic she must have felt?

Wilmington Police shared a story on Facebook that instantly pulled at my heartstrings. A group of tiny ducklings had fallen into a storm drain on Main Street, separated from their frantic mother above.

As a mom myself and someone who is a huge animal lover, just the thought of those little babies stuck and helpless made my heart hurt.

But this is where the story takes a turn that reminds you exactly what kind of place Massachusetts really is!

Officers responded quickly and were joined by the Massachusetts Environmental Police and Wild Bill (from Wild Bill Animal Science). Thanks to their patience, teamwork, and genuine care, those little ducklings were carefully lifted to safety.

And then came the moment that made this whole story melt my heart.

They were reunited with their mother.
