8 Years Ago: Breaking Benjamin Visits Maine, Hilarious Star Wars Game Rant Went Viral
One of my favorite backstage interviews happened eight years ago. On November 24, 2015, Breaking Benjamin came to the Cross Insurance Arena with Shinedown and Sevendust for what was, from what I remember, a sold out show. Over the years at WCYY, I’ve interviewed hundreds of bands—some were great, some, well, not so much. But this one has always stood out as one of the most entertaining. Ben really opened up about things he loves…and some things that he despises with a passion. One of those big dislikes? A new video game that had just hit shelves, Star Wars: Battlefront.
I remembered seeing a post on their Instagram page where he had already roasted the game, and I thought to myself, "I’ve got to ask him about this. Let’s get him amped up before he hits the stage, plus it’ll make good radio".
Ben, a well-known gamer, had even been approached by the game’s creators to try it out and hopefully endorse it. Let’s just say, that endorsement was not happening. He absolutely hated the game and made it crystal clear with some choice words. You can watch the video below.
The interview ended up going viral on YouTube, with publications across the country picking it up. As of now, it's sitting at around 240,000 views. For us, it was a goldmine of a moment—unfiltered, hilarious, and so completely Ben. It’s not often you get such raw emotion from a band member, especially over a video game, and Maine fans loved every second of it. Thanks for keeping it real, Ben and come back to Portland soon!
