For more than 60 years, locals and tourists have stopped along Route 1 at Bob's Clam Hut in Kittery for their world famous fried clams. The simplicity of the restaurant, and its menu, has now made it a Southern Maine staple. Think of it like Red's Eats in the southern corridor. But for the first time since Bob's Clam Hut opened in 1956, they're going to try their hand at a second location.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Bob's will take over the empty space left behind by the now defunct 3Buoys restaurant at 111 Cumberland Avenue in Portland. That section of Portland, where Cumberland Avenue intersects with Washington Avenue, is seeing a true renaissance, with new breweries and restaurants popping up almost monthly. Bob's will attempt to join the crowd, offering up a specialty that is surprisingly hard to find in Portland, fried clams.

Tweaks to the Portland location of the Bob's Clam Hut menu are expected and an opening date for the new restaurant was not announced.
