Lewiston, Maine, Named Among ‘Best-Run’ Cities in America
Determining which cities throughout the United States "run" the best can be a challenging game of facts and figures. There are so many things to consider from education to infrastructure to the economy as well as health and well-being.
That didn't stop WalletHub from putting together a list of the 'best-run' cities in America for 2024. WalletHub used 36 different metrics of data and placed them into 6 different categories. From there, each city that was considered was given a ranking and the results speak for themself.
Lewiston is the 'Best-Run' City in Maine for 2024
While Lewiston often receives negative press, it appears that whatever is going on within the walls of City Hall is working better than people think.
WalletHub ranked Lewiston as the 40th 'best-run' city in America. That is ahead of major cities like Jacksonville, Charleston and Las Vegas. Lewiston is the 5th highest ranked city in New England on the WalletHub list.
Lewiston Gets High Marks in Three Major Categories
Of WalletHub's six major categories to determine their 'best-run' cities, Lewiston ranked high in three of them. Lewiston ranked in the top 25 for economy. A detailed breakdown says that Lewiston has a low unemployment rate, businesses are growing there and there is even more additional opportunity for growth.
Perhaps surprising, Lewiston also ranked among the top 25 cities for safety. While Lewiston has had some issues with violent crime incidents, it is a very safe community comparatively to other cities in the nation.
Lastly, Lewiston got high marks for pollution and infrastructure. Lewiston's hard work on cleaning up the Androscoggin River, having access to a city waste facility as well as low commute times pushed it up the rankings.
Lewiston was Joined by Portland on the 'Best-Run' Cities List
Lewiston wasn't the only Maine city to be recognized by WalletHub in their 'best-run-city rankings.
Portland was also named among the 'best-run' cities in America. Overall, it was ranked 45th in the nation and received some impressive marks for economy, city services, as well as infrastructure.
