For those that have grown up in Lewiston, Maine, the arena has been part of some memories.

Whether it was a big boxing match, professional wrestling, a concert or mostly notably, hockey, the arena has been a place where people throughout the city have gathered for decades upon decades.

But both the age of the building and the rising costs of operating a facility that is centered around events seems to be catching up with The Colisee.

And according to the Maine Wire, The Colisee in Lewiston, Maine, appears to be on the brink of closure.

Circus Claims The Colisee in Lewiston, Maine, Will Be Closing Permanently

Set to bring a performance to The Colisee in Lewiston, Maine, in May, Hamid Circus released a statement on Wednesday claiming that performance would no longer take place.

Their reasoning? Hamid Circus had been told that The Colisee would be closing permanently over financial issues.

Those issues include being able to make payroll for The Colisee staff as well as regular everyday funds for normal operation.

The Colisee in Lewiston, Maine, Was Set to Be Sold to a New Owner

According to the Sun-Journal, The Colisee was set to be sold in a complicated deal to Milltown Sports for $4.9 million dollars.

But key portions of the purchase agreement have fallen through, pushing Milltown Sports to find new financial backing to own and operate the facility.

Hamid Circus was the only large event scheduled for The Colisee in the next several months and their remains cautious optimism that Milltown Sports can find a way to close the deal before hockey season begins.

If they can't, it's possible The Colisee would go dark.
