Only One Maine Town Ranked Among Top 150 Budget-Friendly Stays in Nation

Do you think Maine has become too expensive to visit? The answer to that question is a little complicated.

On one side, the prices to visit places like Portland have skyrocketed in recent years. That's a simple case of supply and demand. Portland has become a global vacation destination and there isn't enough supply to meet demand in the summer months.

But for other places? Many of Maine's longtime summer hotspots would argue they're still very affordable for everyone to visit. But according to a recent poll by BadCredit.org, regular travelers would disagree with that notion.

BadCredit.org polled travelers and asked them to name the most budget-friendly towns and cities across America for lodging. Typically, that would be a motel. Out of the Top 150 places, only one town made the list.

That town may be a surprise, too. It was Bar Harbor. Travelers believe that while some of the motel offerings in or around Bar Harbor are still a little pricey, they offer a lot of charm, strong comfort and reasonable proximity to activities that any traveler might want to partake in like Acadia National Park.

That was it for Maine. No Boothbay Harbor, Old Orchard Beach, Camden, Wells, Bethel or any of other regular hotspots you may expect to find a handful of reasonable-priced motels in.

The most budget-friendly destination in New England? Manchester, Vermont which ranked right outside of the Top 10. Manchester is known for its marble sidewalks and four-season activity list alongside a handful of affordable places to stay.
