
Maine Residents Spend an Average of $4,500 Per Year On ‘Going Out’
Every now and again, people just need a night out. Whether that is something simple like an evening at a nice restaurant or something more elaborate like a weekend stay at a quiet hotel.
But in a time when so many people are counting every single dollar in their bank account, how much money do people actually spend on 'going out' when you add it all up?
Quite a bit. Enough to rank Maine amongst the top states in 'going out' spending per person the nation.
Maine Ranks Number 10 Overall in Food. Lodging and Entertainment Spending
According to Visual Capitalist, the average American spends a little under $4,200 per year on food, lodging and entertainment outside of their home.
That could include things like sporting events, concerts, hotel stays and of course, visits to restaurants.
Maine residents averaged $4,509 worth of spending on 'going out' in 2024 based on data compiled by Visual Capitalist. That ranks 10 in the country.
Other New England States Ranked Higher Than Maine in 'Going Out' Spending
While Maine's average is high, two other New England states spend even more on 'going out'. That would be Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
Massachusetts residents spend an average of $4,762 per person on food, lodging and entertainment while Rhode Island residents average $4,844 per person on 'going out'.
That still didn't compare with the state that spends the most. Colorado leads the nation, spending an average of $5,677 per person.
The state that stays home the most? West Virginia. Residents there only spend an average of $3,080 dollars on 'going out'.
