Markathon on WCYY to End in 2026
As the old proverb goes "all good things must come to an end".
Markathon on WCYY has been a staple of Maine for nearly two full decades. What started as a wacky idea to raise awareness and a few thousand dollars for charity has turned into a week long super fundraiser for the Center For Grieving Children.
Markathon 17 in 2025 raised more than $83,000 over the course of 125 hours. That massive total deserves a round of applause for everyone that contributed.
But as the dust settled on Markathon 17, the man behind it all, Mark Curdo, made a very important announcement on social media.
Markathon 18 Will Be The Last on WCYY
Mark Curdo took to social to let everyone know how thankful he was that Markathon 17 was the most successful Markathon in history. Following this year's event, the grand total for money raised over the course of 17 years exceeds $950,000.
But following the thank yous, Curdo let everyone know that the 2026 edition of Markathon will be the last. Without going into too much detail, Curdo needs to focus on himself as well as his immediate family.
He's cherished the opportunity to play incredible music and share heartfelt stories on the air for 17 years but spending 6 consecutive days tucked away from the world has become too challenging.
There Will Be One More Markathon To Be Part Of
While the dates are still being worked out, Mark Curdo has promised there will be one more big finale for Markathon.
