14 of the Most Iconic (or Offensive) Vanity Plates Spotted in Maine
If you want a deep, unfiltered look into the souls of Maine drivers, skip the bumper stickers and go straight to the vanity plates. Over the years, I’ve snapped some wild ones and decided to put the search feature of Google Photos to work. These personalized plates range from pop culture genius to “should we call someone?” Here’s a look at some of the best (and maybe worst) Maine has to offer.
“LIL DRNK” – Let’s kick it off with this one, because nothing screams “pull me over” quite like broadcasting your blood alcohol level on your bumper.
“FAHQU” – Somehow slipped through the DMV filter. It’s like peak New England road rage with a touch of class.
“DONT TOW” – Feels like someone’s been through some serious trauma with parking enforcement and has no skill (or care) on where to legally park.
“8OO81E5” – is what happens when a 14-year-old boy gets his own car and $25. The teenager that lives within me commends this.
“DMB 41” – is a reference to a fan favorite song by Dave Matthews Band fans and is likely driven by someone who has seen the band perform at least… 41 times.
“ABGSLF” – A Bug’s Life - on a VW Bug = Genius.
“CRACK HD” – This one falls right in line with “LIL DRNK”... likely a joke but also likely to attract unwanted attention.
“TOOLH” – Likely driven by the proudest Tool fan in Maine.
“HOTFUSS” – Shouts out The Killers’ iconic debut album, and honestly, I’d let this car merge.
“NVGIUP” – Did we just get Rick Rolled by a license plate? Never gonna live that down.
“SHI WOLF” – Is how you let people know you’re still riding hard for Shakira in 2025.
"DRMAQUN" - You might want to think twice about tailgating this car, as there is likely a self proclaimed drama queen behind the wheel.
“MMMKAY” – A nod to South Park’s Mr. Mackey.
“8008 YS” – Could be the luck of the draw with a lot of Maine’s plates ending in YS... or someone is having fun using teenage humor. Again, I’m here for it.
Maine made their vanity plate laws more strict a few years back so it’s unlikely that several of these would make it passed the DMV screening process in 2025. Either way, those are the Maine license plates that made me do a double take — whether I was laughing, confused, or just thinking “well, that’s a bit racy!” to myself while sitting at a red light.
