Freeport, Maine, Restaurant Named One of the Most ‘Interesting’ in the Country
In almost every corner of Maine, you can find a unique and uncommon restaurant to visit. Whether its the decor, menu, or just some old-fashioned Maine charm, if you're looking for a fascinating restaurant, Vacationland has plenty.
LoveFood recently put together a list of the most 'interesting' restaurants across the United States. And the restaurant they've deemed to be the most interesting in Maine might be a surprise. That's because it's a fast food chain.
LoveFood identified the McDonald's location in Freeport as Maine's most interesting restaurant. While most other restaurants on the list are mom-and-pop spots, how did a fast food joint become Maine's most interesting restaurant?
It really boils down to the fact that there's no other McDonald's in the world like the one in Freeport. As many people know, McDonald's wanted to build one of their signature restaurants in downtown Freeport years ago, and were denied by the town. Rather than pack up shop, they purchased a 19th century house and accidentally created a one-of-a-kind McDonald's.
Because McDonald's had to operate under certain town constraints, it's not just the exterior that's different. The interior of the Freeport McDonald's features fireplaces, plush-style booths, and other pieces of old-time decor you'd expect to see in a farmhouse from 1850.
While it is unquestionably one of the most interesting McDonald's locations in the world from an aesthetic perspective, the menu is still a straightforward McDonald's menu with the occasional lobster roll as a featured item during the summer months.
Is is truly Maine's most interesting restaurant? We'll let you decide.
