Maine’s Finest Pints: Top-Ranked Brews From the Pine Tree State
Let's be honest, we love our beer here in Maine.
Sure, lobster may be the largest export, but the craft beer industry has certainly been holding its own.
Maine is a Craft Beer Haven
As of this publishing, there are over 120 breweries in the state. According to Statista, Maine had the second-highest brewery per capita number (14.6) in the country in 2023.
This leads to two conclusions: Mainers not only love beer, but they also love supporting local businesses.
As summer rolls on, Maine's tourism season continues to kick some serious butt. That’s great news for an industry with an economic impact comparable to that of a small principality. Yes, Maine’s beer industry is basically Luxembourg. I have no idea if that’s accurate, but it sounds cool.
This state was built to be a craft beer oasis. The culture, the tourism, and the support for all things local are essentially the ethos of a craft brewery hotspot. And the numbers don’t lie.
What are the Most Popular Craft Beers from Maine?
With that in mind, I decided to take a look at travel site BeerAdvocate's Maine page, where there is a list of the most popular beers. I wanted to get a sense of what the "outsiders" (and Mainers, of course) think are the best styles, breweries, and flavors.
I must say, it's a good list. Of course, it's no surprise that the list is peppered with the usual suspects like Allagash,Bissell Brothers, and Maine Beer. However, there are a few cameos from Foundation Brewing and Tributary.
It's also not surprising to see a wide variety of IPAs on the list. The polarizing style has been on an upward trajectory for years and shows no signs of slowing down.

While many other varieties are represented, none are as prevalent as the hoppy pale ales.
Below, you will find the rankings. I used BeerAdvocate's "User Rankings," which are based on reviews.
Cheers.
