One man is dead after a Sunday, October 9, evening collision between his car and a cow.

WCAX reported that 48-year-old, Jason St. Pierre, of Vermont had been speeding on Route 105 in Sheldon, Vermont, in his luxury Jaguar.

While traveling down the road near the Abbey Restaurant, he struck a cow, the news station stated. A nurse that was nearby went to offer aid to St. Pierre, according to WCAX, but told 911 dispatchers that the man was already dead.

The crash happened at about 10:50 p.m. on Sunday, October 9. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them at 802-524-5993.

The cow also died as a result of the impact and, as of October 10, police were working to figure out who the animal belonged to.

In Maine, the Department of Transportation released a study in 2021 regarding wildlife and motor vehicle collisions.

The report revealed that over a five-year period, 2016-2020, the animal involved in the most crashes was deer with over 26,000.

While there was no specific listing for cows in Maine, there were 878 crashes involving animals other than moose, deer, bear and turkeys, over the five-year period.

A Mainebiz article from 2020 even reported that Maine ranked 22nd in the nation for a collision with an animal.

As for New Hampshire, deer also tops the list of animals most involved in car crashes.

New Hampshire Fish and game reports that "in a typical year, an estimated 1,200 deer/vehicle collisions occur in New Hampshire."

Be safe out there.
