Stressed Out? Maybe You Should Move to New Hampshire
Stress is everywhere—whether it’s skyrocketing grocery prices, work deadlines that never end, or just trying to survive a group chat without losing your mind. And apparently, 77% of adults are also stressed about the future of the country, this according to new a new study by Wallethub. But not all states are sweating the same things, and some places are way more chill than others.
According to WalletHub, which compared all 50 states across 40 different stress-related factors, New Hampshire is officially the #3 least stressed state in the country. They looked at everything from average work hours and personal bankruptcy rates to how many adults are actually getting enough sleep (spoiler: not enough of us). And NH came out looking pretty relaxed.
So why is the Granite State so stress-free? Well, having low crime rates, solid health care, and a decent economy definitely helps. Plus, there’s something about all that fresh air, hiking trails, and maple syrup that just screams chill vibes only. Not to mention, WalletHub also stated that they have the lowest share of the population living in poverty in the country.
So since New Hampshire didn’t take the top spot, who did? My first guess was Hawaii—arguably the place most people associate with relaxation—but somehow only ranked at #10. The least stressed state? That honor goes to Nebraska at #1 (seriously?), with Minnesota at #2. Who knew the Midwest was basically a Zen retreat? Not me.
So if you're looking for a stress-free lifestyle, maybe it's time to embrace the Live Free or Die life, the New Hampshire way—just make sure you're cool with long winters, but at least there are hiking trails, lakes, rivers, ski resorts and an unreasonable amount of Dunkin’ locations.
