Independence Day fireworks have become a yearly tradition at Old Orchard Beach in Maine. The annual fireworks celebration was initially canceled last week because endangered piping plovers had laid their eggs on the beach; but now, the show is back on.

Town officials told our sister station WMTW that the chicks of the native coastal birds have hatched. Even though they can't yet fly, they reportedly followed their parents away from the busy area of the beach and are out of danger.

By the way, it is illegal to disturb piping plovers.

WATCH:

There will be fireworks at Old Orchard Beach Thursday through Sunday, as per WMTW's Talia Clarke. In addition, OOB has fireworks every Thursday during the summer.
