New England is at the center of countless stories of alleged paranormal activity, unexplained instances, and other strange and unusual happenings.

Living in one of the oldest parts of the country means that hearing spooky stories is, well, a part of life. Several funny TikToks have gone viral for poking fun at us New Englanders, who casually coexist with ghosts in our homes and businesses.

This writer's even interacted with spirits herself, having visited the real Conjuring House in Rhode Island.

But did you know that one of the most haunted places in the world is in New England?

Travel + Leisure recently came out with a list of the 30 most haunted places in the world. The selection highlights locations everywhere, from England to Italy, Germany, France, Vietnam, the United States, and more. Several locations in the US made the list, including one right in Massachusetts:

The Lizzie Borden House in Fall River, Massachusetts

That's right. According to Travel + Leisure, the Lizzie Borden House is one of the most haunted places on Earth. Here's what the travel site had to say about the property:

"This allegedly haunted bed-and-breakfast is the sight of a gruesome and highly publicized murder. Although she was eventually acquitted, Lizzie Borden was suspected of killing her father and stepmother with a hatchet in the unassuming home in 1892. Since then, guests have reported all kinds of strange sightings in the house."

And yes, you can stay overnight or go on ghost tours there as well...if you dare.
