For a lot of people, a quick slice of pizza for lunch is the perfect compromise between delicious and efficient.

But if you live, work or visit Portland, Maine, these days, a quick slice can be difficult to find.

Following the pandemic, lunch crowds and late night crowds in Portland have been dwindling. That has brought an end to nearly all the pizza-by-the-slice businesses.

But there seems to be a revival going on once again.

Not that long ago, Off Track Pizza opened on Exchange Street as a perfect evening or late-night option. And now, another new restaurant hopes to draw back a pizza-by-the-slice breakfast and lunch crowd.

Fork in the Road Pizza Officially Opens at One City Center in Portland, Maine

One City Center is located near Monument Square in Portland and boasts its own food court for tenants of the building as well as the general public.

One City Center's food court includes a Dunkin' location, a revamped City Deli and now the brand new Fork in the Road pizza shop.

Fork in the Road offers several different varieties of pies including traditional cheese and pepperoni to more speciality like a smoked potato and prosciutto or taco pie.

They also have weekly specials including a rotating 'naanwich' and a rotating bruschetta.

Fork in the Road Took Over the Space Left Behind by Tic Tac O

Perhaps it went under the radar for the longtime Portland lunch crowd, but one of the most affordable and kind restaurants closed for good at the end of the June.

That would be the small Mexican restaurant Tic Tac O, which spent more than three-and-a-half decades in business. Owners George and Erica decided to retire much to the chagrin of their consistent customers.
