Popular NH Breakfast Spot Has Been A Pancake Lover’s Dream For Over 80 Years
As foliage season in the North Country of NH is ready to really shine with all its vibrant colors, what better way to spend a perfect morning than by pounding down pancakes at this popular breakfast spot in Grafton County.
It's called Polly’s Pancake Parlor, and it's located at 672 Route 117 (Sugar Hill Rd.) in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire.
Aside from the obvious fact that this place is located in a town and on a road called Sugar Hill, the list of reasons to visit it grows with every bit of research.
Any place with a chalkboard of daily specials that looks like it was written by a calligraphy master, usually makes me a bit suspect. This glorious chalkboard passes my counterintuitive eye test with flying colors.
Not to mention FOUR different dessert choices? Yes please.
And how cool is it that Polly's has recorded the intensity of the foliage in that area for the past 80 years? The parenthetical (only yellows) may be the best thing I'll see this whole season. Anyone whose lived among the deciduous trees knows that that's the final stage, but, I can't ever remember seeing that phrasing ever used.
What's more, their COVID policy concerning the order of a stack of pancakes is really interesting. Apparently, before 'The Dark Times', Polly's would bring you out a freshly prepared pancake only after you ate the one that preceded it.
Genius.
They taste so much better fresh off the stove and chances are, a lot less will go to waste.
Well, just add this clever method to the list of things we all hope to return in the not too distant future.
In the meantime, one of these weekends I think I'll venture up to Sugar Hill and see if I can polish off six of those beauties at Polly's.
