Smitty’s in Sanford is Expanding to Offer More Than Just Movies
Coming soon to the Sanford theater: a new arcade, bowling alley, and fully functioning lounge!
According to Seacoast Online, Smitty's is scheduled to break ground this week on their new expansion, which will include a variety of games from skeeball to classic arcade games. The new lounge will have a full family-friendly menu along with several new high-definition TVs, which will allow Smitty's to show NFL games again.
The decision to expand the theater comes in part from a survey of patrons that showed a preference for more entertainment than just the big screen, the theater's director of organizations said. Since its move in 2017 from its original location at the Center for Shopping on Main Street, Smitty's has been eyeing the space between its current building and Ocean State Job Lot, the department store located next door in the building.
Smitty's in Sanford isn't the only theater that will likely be expanding to include a full entertainment center, according to Al Wyatt, the director of organizations. The company's other theater branches in Biddeford, Windham, Topsham, and Tilton, New Hampshire could be open to it as well.
“It’s a natural progression,” Wyatt told Seacoast Online. “Where we can fit them, we will.”
