Sox Win On Incredible Play At Plate [VIDEO]
It just might have been the wildest and whackiest win for the Red Sox all year. A 10-inning 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay to extend the winning streak to 11 straight games and reducing the magic number to clinch down to two.
The winning run came in the top of the 10th. Dustin Pedroia scored from first base on a David Ortiz gap shot. Pedroia should have been out by 15 feet but somehow he avoided the tag and then danced around the plate while more tag attempts missed and then the catcher dropped the ball.
On the mound, Sox pitchers struck out 23 batters, including 11 in a row at one point. Eduardo Rodriguez had a career high 13 strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
The win puts the Sox record at 92-64 and that is now tied with Texas for best in the American League.
