Stonewall Kitchen in Portland is Closing – Help Bring it Back!
Ugh, not Stonewall Kitchen!
I love Stonewall Kitchen! I love everything about it. Every little jam, cracker, mix, sauce, basket, bread, kitchen tool - it's the one thing I always love buying as gifts and getting as a gift. But they are doing some rearranging and closed their cooking school in their York flagship store. I took a class and it was just the most fun ever. They actually are getting into home goods and hope to open a new Stonewall Home in the York compound this Spring. Okay, that's awesome. But what's up with the Old Port Stonewall closing by the end of the month? It's not company restructuring...
According to MaineBiz, Stonewall Kitchen has been in the Old Port on the corner of Exchange and Middle streets for the past 24 years. They didn't want to close and in fact, they want to find another storefront in the Old Port soon. Yes! So why are they closing? That cool building they are part of is about to have some major work done and it would have cut the store's space. If you've ever been on a busy day, uh, there's no way you can make it smaller. Stonewall Kitchen felt like they had no choice but to close that location.
Stonewall's spokeswoman Janine Somers told Mainebiz,
We encourage anyone to let us know if you hear of a great space. We really want to stay in the Old Port!
The Old Port is prime real estate in Maine. I can't imagine there is a ton up for grabs, but do you know of any? Here's the cool part about Maine. Your cousin once dated the woman whose mom owned such and such. Bam! You know of a place that's about to become available!
Stonewall Kitchen has got to stay in the Old Port. Just for selfish reasons of me hopping down after work and grabbing more pancake mix!
