Before we go anywhere with this.........Beyonce had one of the best videos of ALL TIME. Ok moving on....what really IS the best music video of all time? I can't pick just one so I'm going to attach a few of my favorites. There was this television network called MTV back in the day that aired these music videos that you now see on the interwebs! It's still on the air but it's mostly real life soap operas now. Being an official addict of MTV, I remember some of the most (at the time) groundbreaking videos. Here are just a few from the 80s.

(1985) A-ha - Take On Me is definitely known for it's classic video. Nothing like this had been done yet in 1985 The video used a pencil-sketch animation / live-action combination called rotoscoping. This is where live-action footage is traced over frame by frame to give the characters realistic movements. They "rotoscoped" about 3,000 frames and the video took 4 months to finish.

(1987) I've always loved this video. Former frontman of Genesis, Phil Collins, saw a puppet version of himself on a British TV show called Spitting Image. He then got in touch with the shows creators to see if they could create puppets of the entire band, as well as some other notable celebrities that you will probably recognize. The results are pretty awesome.

(1996) The video for the Smashing Pumpkins "Tonight, Tonight" was filmed in the style of a turn-of-the-century silent film using theater-style backdrops and random special effects. Fun fact: The production crew had issues locating costumes for the video because Titanic was being filmed at the same. Great video!

(1986) I remember Peter Gabriel (former singer for Genesis) cleaning house at the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards. I was blown away as a ten year old. I was like, "he keeps winning everything!" Well deserved. The video features claymation, pixilation and other cool special effects. It ranked at #4 on MTV's 100 Greatest Videos Ever Made.

(1983) I don't even know what's going on in this video, I've always dug it thought. It features robot-like movable sculptures dancing, spinning and walking. It's like they grabbed a bunch of props from the dumpster, brought them back and put them to use.

Not much to say about this one other than it's amazing. When I discovered MTV in late '86, they weren't showing this one in rotation anymore. I'm guessing because of it's length. I remember I had to wait til they did their Top 100 videos of all-time countdown to see it...where it usually ranked at #1. It was also voted as the most influential music video of (Kanye voice) ALL TIME.

(1996) Jamiroquai's break through hit earned them ten nominations and four wins at the MTV Video Music Awards including video of the year in 1997. This one will play tricks on your eyes!
