There Are Surprisingly 16 Places to Get Food and Drinks Inside the Maine Mall
It's hard to believe that the Maine Mall has been around for over 50 years now. Built on what used to be land for a pig farm in South Portland, the Maine Mall began as a stand-alone Jordan Marsh in 1969.
In 1971, it opened as the Maine Mall by anchoring itself to Jordan Marsh, and it quickly earned its name. People traveled from all over Maine and neighboring New England states for one-stop shopping at the Maine Mall.
It wasn't just the stores that made a trip to the Maine Mall unique, but there were also great places to eat, including the national restaurant chain York's Steak House. This place was at the Maine Mall until the mid-to-late-'80s, when the company when out of business.
There was also a very decent lunch counter at Woolworth's department store at the Maine Mall, where you can sit and grab a bite to eat.
For most of its early years, there was no food court. It wasn't until 1994 when a $6.5 million renovation created the food court we know today after York Steak House and Woolworth's lunch counter had closed. Just a few years later, all of the Woolworth Department stores went under.
While there may no longer be any sit-down restaurants at the Maine Mall, there are still a lot of choices for food and drink before or after you've done your shopping.
We've compiled a list of the 16 places you can grab a bite or a drink at the Maine Mall. Some of these you may know well, while others may be tucked away elsewhere in the mall that you might have missed.
