If the North Pole isn't part of your winter travel plans this year, there may be a destination a lot closer to home that checks all of those magical holiday boxes for you. It's in Freeport, at L.L. Bean's annual Northern Lights Celebration where a combination of all things Santa and winter come together over the course of several weeks. It's free to visit and family friendly with a couple of new attractions for 2019.

One of those new attractions is a giant, walk-in snow globe. If you've ever imagined being INSIDE a snow globe while watching movies like Home Alone and Christmas Vacation, visitors will be able to step inside L.L. Bean's one-of-a-kind walkable snow globe, a place you almost certain to see pop up on your social media throughout the holiday season.

There's more than just the snow globe at this celebration though. There's an incredible model train village inside the L.L. Bean Flagship store that is a must-see. There's also the Discovery Forest, a wonderland of decorated evergreens that surround the "perfect" Christmas tree. Another attraction that is new this year is the WinterKids StoryWalk, a chance for families to follow the pages of a storybook through the paths of the discovery forest that highlight the benefits of reading.

Most of the attractions at L.L. Bean's Northern Lights Celebration are open daily from 9am to 9pm November 22nd through December 31st. Visits from Santa and his reindeer as well as horse drawn carriage rides are limited to specific times on the weekends. More details can be found here.
