Given how rural the State of Maine is, many people just assume that we have no really large buildings.  Sure, they may think that Portland, Lewiston / Auburn, or Bangor has a few big buildings, but they probably also believe that you need to leave the state to find a MASSIVE building.

Apparently, this is not really the case.

A gigantic building in Augusta just sold for big bucks.

Listed by the agents of the Boulos Company, the massive building at 45 Commerce Center Drive just sold for $18.5 million, according to an article on the Maine Biz website. Tucked away behind Maine General Express Care, the building, which was built in 1980, encompasses 317,000 square feet.

Set up for everything from offices to manufacturing, the building has enough parking spaces to accommodate almost any kind of business, Maine Biz reported. The place has over 1,400 parking spaces!

According to the article, current tenants of the building include the Maine Department of Labor, the Office of Information Technology, the Maine Department of Public Safety, and the Maine Information Network.

It appears the purchasers of the building formed a limited liability corporation just to handle the property, according to Maine Biz.

It should not come as a surprise that deals of this size are quite rare for Central Maine.

In the article, one of the Boulos agents is quoted as saying:

The sale of [Commerce Center] is the largest investment transaction for the Augusta area in recent history

The wildest part of this building is, because of the forestation, there is a good chance you have driven right past the building and not realized it.
