This Truck’s Roof Was Ripped Right Off When It Struck a New Hampshire Bridge
State police troopers were called to assist the Exeter Police Department on Wednesday after a commercial box truck driver from Connecticut hit an Amtrak railroad bridge and ripped the entire roof off his vehicle in New Hampshire.
Troopers said on social media that a preliminary investigation of the collision revealed that Jeff Spruill, 38, of East Hartford, Conn., was the driver of the 2017 International box truck.
"Spruill attempted to pass under the railroad bridge on Newfields Rd despite multiple signs warning of a height restriction of 11 feet – The truck measured approx. 13 ft. 6 in.," the Facebook post says.
Rail service was shut down so Amtrack officials could determine if the bridge was damaged.
State troopers say Spruill was not injured as a result of the crush.
An inspection of the box truck was conducted by TFC Needham resulting in the truck being placed out of service for disabling damage.
Crew members from Unitil, an energy company, also assisted.
The vehicle was removed from the scene by the New England Truck Center, according to the post.
Exeter police are reminding drivers to read the signs posted in the area.
