Toadies, ‘Mama Take Me Home’ – Exclusive Song Premiere
For over two decades, Toadies have been one of the most consistently solid rock acts, churning out underrated gems. As they prepare for the release of their seventh studio album, The Lower Side of Uptown, the band has teamed up with Loudwire to bring you the exclusive premiere of their new song "Mama Take Me Home."
This slow burn track starts off with more of a melancholy guitar-strum vibe, but subtly starts to pick up in intensity with heavier guitars by the end of the first verse and a more aggressive bluesy wail toward the end of the track to match the power in Vaden Todd Lewis' voice.
The singer tells us, "'Mama Take Me Home' is based on one of those riffs that I just couldn't put my finger on lyrically/vocally. We tried various arrangements over the years, but wound up stripping it down to the basics and letting the dynamics do the work. As we were tracking it I was recalling the craziness of going on tour for the first time, and just wrote the song to 20-years-ago me. I'd think that a new touring artist could appreciate the feeling.”
Speaking of touring, the 20-year-old Lewis would appreciate what the modern day version of the singer is doing this fall. The band starts a lengthy trek Sept. 6 in Denton, Texas, with Local H and doesn't wind down the run until Nov. 10 in Austin, Texas. See all of the scheduled dates below.
The touring comes in support of the band's new album, The Lower Side of Uptown, which is due Sept. 8 via Kirtland Records. "This album is 'roots Toadies,'" says guitarist Clark Vogeler, pointing out the major riffage and time shifts. "I feel that subconsciously we thought that this record would have ended up incorporating some of that quieter sound, but that didn't happen," adds the guitarist. "When we got to the studio with nothing more than a pile of riffs, what came out of the band was really loud and heavy music. So not only is this album louder than Heretics, I think it's louder and heavier than the last couple Toadies albums."
