It might finally be time for the Walmart in Auburn, Maine, to be known for something other than repeated accidents with a pesky yellow pole.

Believe it or not, Walmart opened their very first store in Maine almost 40 years ago.

Since then, a lot has changed in the way people shop and how they view major department stores.

Walmart is fully aware of that.

As Amazon continues to expand their footprint in Maine with some major warehouses on the way, Walmart wants to make sure that customers still believe in their brand.

Walmart Plans Several Changes For Their Auburn, Maine, Location

Walmart has announced an aggressive plan to renovate more than 650 stores nationwide as they try to keep up with competition.

There will be very obvious modernization efforts and some that may be a little bit more subtle.

Walmart plans to update their parking lots, landscaping and signage. The Walmart in Auburn, Maine, is set to undergo some updating of its parking lot this summer.

Shoppers will also notice wider aisles and layouts that Walmart believe will fit a 'modern shopper' better.

Walmart Plans to Upgrade Their Services at Their Auburn, Maine, Location

Another key point in Walmart's renovation plans is to upgrade services at key stores.

Walmart plans to upgrade pharmacy services to include private consultation rooms as well as free pharmacy deliver for members of Walmart plus.

Walmart also plans enhancements to their curbside pickup and delivery services. Walmart intends to compete with Amazon and offer same-day delivery at many locations. Part of the renovation will be to more quickly and efficiently fill online orders.

Another change Walmart will rapidly install is bringing new brands to their renovated stores.

Walmart hasn't officially what those brands are but expect to see many new products to the modernized stores.

Additionally, the Walmart app will more accurately display inventory in stores to allow shoppers to choose between pickup or same-day delivery without interruptions.

Many of These Same Changes Are Coming to the Biddeford and Falmouth Walmart Stores

When Walmart announced these sweeping changes to more than 650 stores nationwide, it wasn't just the Auburn, Maine, location that was targeted.

The Walmart locations in Biddeford as well as Falmouth are expected to undergo substantial modernization as well.

The timetable Walmart has set to complete the modernization of all stores is 2029.
